Family Stay

After volunteer arrives in Kathmandu, Teka takes the volunteer to stay with Nepalese family. Until the completion of the program, Volunteer will stay along with Nepalese family. From this, both the volunteer and Nepalese family will have opportunities to share their precious culture, tradition and language with each other. This will also help volunteers to learn Nepali language with family. The family members will also have an opportunity to practice English spoken.

Family stay is arranged in various parts of Kathmandu Metropolitan city. Besides, Teka also arrange placement outside Kathmandu such as: Chitwan, Bandipur and Pokhara. In Kathmandu, volunteers are arranged to stay at villages such as; Gokarna, Mulpani and Dharmasthali.

Nepalese families are well known and closed to Teka members. They are very cooperative, helpful and kind with good heart. The volunteers will have feelings as if they are in home and with own family members. Their love, care and hospitality are remarkable. The volunteer will stay as a family member. 

Nepali Language course

Volunteer will start program with 15 to 30hrs Nepali language course. The experienced Nepali language trainer of Teka conducts Language class. After the class, volunteer are able to understand and speak Nepali Language which help volunteers become familiar with people, family and students during the stay.

Various Training

It includes training such as historical background of Nepal, culture and traditions, festivals, women issues, social and development issues, village life and so on. School Teaching training class is also delivered. The experienced personnel conduct these classes. Each class carries out 1 hour. Five to seven trainings will be delivered. Volunteer will have enough ideas and knowledge about Nepal and present scenario of the country after receiving trainings.

Kathmandu Sightseeing

Sightseeing program is held for first week. After language class, volunteer will be taken to see one historical and tourist destination. Teka arranges seven different sights including World Heritage Sights that includes Pashupati Temple, Bouddha, Swoyembhunaath, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur durbar squares and Kirtipur. Teka will pay all the necessary costs.   

School Teaching

After taking Nepali Language course, volunteer is taken to the government school to The volunteers already take School Teaching Training. Apart from this, they are taken to show the School Environment where they will have chance to meet with Teachers and students. The volunteers also monitor the classes. 

From this, they get ideas and can build up confidence to go further. After completing 15 to 30 hours of Nepali language course, volunteers go the school to conduct classes. School Administration decides how many classes they conduct each day. Going to the school, volunteer teaches English in their own way. They can play music, game or activity to make students understand.

 

Working in the Organizations

After school, volunteer can join women and children shelter. Children or women are survived trafficking, domestic violence and various kind of social discriminations. Being together with children or women, Volunteer can involved teaching English language, playing game and conducting environmental and moral activities, painting exhibition, essay writing and so on. In this way, volunteer can give their best effort to enhance children and women capacities.

Supervision/Monitoring

Teka conducts visit its volunteers time to time. It is held in family, school, organization and placement where the volunteer is involved. The volunteers also visit Teka to review the on going program.

Workshop

Teka conducts workshop to review the program. Volunteers come to join the workshop from the different parts. Workshop is like a platform where volunteers come and share their valuable experiences and moments. Teka also delivers information regarding the upcoming program. Volunteer can raise the issues they have been facing during the placement. Teka personnel conduct such workshop. Volunteer along with family member and school’s teacher also attend the workshop.

Village stay

Two kinds of village stay program Teka conducts;

a. Short term stay : Those who stay in city for about two weeks to 1 month and interested to stay for short time are taken to stay village to experience village life, culture and people. It includes 1 to 7 days stay.

b. Short term stay : Those who plan to stay longer in the village, Teka arrange placement for 2 weeks to 9 months. Living in the village, volunteer goes to the government school and teaches English Language in their own way. S/he can conduct activities to make students understand English. Besides, volunteer also deliver training regarding environment awareness, health and sanitation management and so on. They also can work along with student and local clubs as well as with women groups.

Complementary Service

Teka provides Complementary services such as: Meditation, Yoga, Rafting, Long ride in hill-station, Zoo and National Museum sight seeing and one night stay at popular tourist sight. Only one service will be provided.

Exposure Visit

During the placement period, volunteers are taken to Exposure Visit. This visit provides opportunities to meet other volunteers in different places. While meeting each other, volunteers share their experiences regarding family, placement, work and own feelings. Volunteers have also opportunities to see around the new places, communities, school environment and families. This also gives change while staying in the same village.
